Steve's Keynote (Jan. 2008)

I am late for work today, because of Steve's keynote. Terrible!! but it's worthed to watch, although at some point it's kinda annoying the way audiences kept on praising at every single ends of Steve's sentence.

A quick summary to Steve's keynote (you can see the whole video by your self here or a summary here):

  1. iPhone/iPod touch got new apps like map - still not GPS, sending SMS to more than 1 person at a time feature (WOW!!!), webclips, customise the home screen, languages and lyrics.
  2. Great innovation for iTunes: rent a movie. Coming out internationally at the end of the year. 30 days after you downloaded it and 24 hours after you watched it. Rent price is dear. Hoping it will get cheaper.
  3. Apple TV is improved. One of mac product i must have.
  4. Here comes the blast: MacBook Air "World's thinnest notebook". This is insane. It's only 0,16 inch (0,41 cm) and 3lb (1,3 kg). The biggest disaster in this product which is at the same time also the most incredible feature is no CD/DVD player. The reasons Steve mentioned in the video are of course Apple oriented solutions, but one thing interested me: Installation. With MacBook Air, you can install apps wirelessly. Slide an installation CD into your PC/Mac CD driver, MacBook Air will find the driver and installation can start. Holy Moly!!!
The question i had in my head as i saw it: do i want it? The presentation was so commercial. Made you want to buy it immediately. Lucky i am not loaded, made me think twice getting 3 to 4 digit price products. So, yes i'd love to as much as i'd love to have iPhone and iPod touch, but only when i had extra money.

Here's my apple wish list sorted to priorities - this wish list is not based on sleeky style only, but also to appreciate the great apple innovative ideas:
  1. iMac
  2. Time capsule
  3. Keyboard and mighty mouse
  4. Apple TV
  5. iPod touch/iPhone
  6. MacBook Air
Hey, i am taking charity ;-) As a low budget student, it's far from being come true. Oh btw., i am in Germany, so you might want to check out the German apple website ;-)

HOWTO: add new mac icons

As stupid as it is, adding new icons in apple computer is unthinkable. I finally figured it out after about half of a day intensive surfing and it goes as follows:

  1. Highlight the file on which icon you want to change, click "info". Info can be found by right clicking the file or it also can be found on top of finder.
  2. Open the folder where the new icons are saved, highlight the desired icon then click "info".
  3. Now you have both windows' info open like this:.
  4. Last step is to copy the desired icon by doing command+c on the icon placed on the top side of info window, then do command+v on the the other info window (to be replaced icon). Notice the icons must be blue highlighted like this:

That's it!! you've made it... easy hah!! but again it was designed for grannies. You have to change every single icons you want manually and the other thing is, i don't know where the original icons are saved, so there's no way back. Maybe anyone can help me. It sucks. But i suppose, apple has the cutes icons from all OS engine, that it's not necessary to replace them.

If you still wanna try, then you can find the icons in apple's website. Good luck!!

Little hints from apple world

Days passed, months flew, it's time for new entry. A lot of things happened lately. Got to travel a lot on the weekends, started my internship for about a month now and exams every now and then. My life has been treating me well. I've got nothing to complain apart from the fact that i am still a poor f***ing student. You know low budget, hardwork. But i guess i have got to enjoy it.

Luckily (or not?) i don't have to take part on apple battery exchange program this year. I've done it last year tho, but i thought it would be nice to get new battery every year. On the other side, i know that nothing is wrong with my battery.

I read something about Apple improved iPots. Steve Job who used to against iPot-Video is now crazy on improving it. Here are some of the improvements that i found interesting:
1. Battery life time extended from 4 hours to 6.5 - nice.
2. Instant searching - very nice.
3. Games - alright.
4. Lowered the price to $249 for 30GB - Yeah sure, still too expensive for me.

Another update from apple is iTunes. It has now that album cover feature that would flip like one of those old-time giant cd player machine. That way, you see what comes next and what are after. To read the full story, check out this website: Live from the Steve Jobs keynote its showtime.

iTV (coded name) is out next year. With this slim piece of hardware you can hook up your TV with iTunes and play dvds you just bought through iTunes. Well i guess, you'll need a pretty decent TV to be able to hook iTV.
